Excerpt:

Diary of St. Blair

First publication 9/14/2204

Introduction
by Sybille Malone Cote

This is my first written work as well as our world’s first published manuscript since the abolition of all books in 2100.

Before you start reading her diary, I’d like to share a little bit about my friend, a heavenly saint named Blair Carlisle.

As you read her diary entries, remember she only wanted to be a teenager first and foremost and to spend time with her friends. Blair was gifted with wisdom, insight, inner acceptance and the ability to see and communicate supernaturally.

She was, like many of us, resistant to share her talents, not knowing for certain if these gifts would ndeed benefit others.

This frustrated the Archangel Michael, because she kept him waiting. Waiting until she was ready to write down the visions for my benefit.

Michael’s patience was in short supply.

Being THE warrior angel, he had divine messages to deliver, people to protect, events to orchestrate and demons to slay. But he also understood that teenagers are often chosen and need time to develop into the great saints they are destined to be.

I have learned that Blair, like Joseph – who was sold into slavery, Miriam – who instigated her baby brother Moses’ protection, Moses himself – who eventually led Israel out of slavery, David – who fought Goliath, and Mary – who divinely carried the child Jesus, were predestined as young people to protect others and advance the faith.

I made my way across the room and leaned on the wall next to the window, looking at her as I crossed my arms. “Angelina.”

She turned her gaze to me, and the sadness in her eyes almost broke me apart.

“You care about all of these people. But who takes care of you?

Her bottom lip trembled; I’d clearly hit a nerve. Hatred spread inside me for all those people—her uncle most of all—who only looked at her like a paycheck or an opportunity and nothing else. Had they forgotten she was a human being, too? Did they not realize that no person could keep doing what she did without burning out?

Angelina just shook her head. I didn’t even think about what I did next; I was going on total instinct. Taking her hands, I moved her arms down from where she held them crossed over her stomach and put mine around her. She inhaled a sharply, but to my relief, she didn’t push me away.

Trembling, she leaned into me, pulled me a bit tighter and nestled her head against my chest.

“You should have somebody who cares about you. For you.” I caressed her cheek, where a blush was blooming.

When her lashes fluttered, I couldn’t help myself any longer. Leaning down, I pressed my mouth to hers, and the touch of her silky sweet lips against my own sent fire raging through my blood. I wrapped her tighter in my embrace as she clutched at my shirt and moaned against me.

Within seconds, I was shaking as well. I hadn’t planned on kissing her—and I sure as hell hadn’t planned on kissing her like I wanted to claim her as my own. But it happened, and my head started spinning.

This was madness. Stupid. She was rich. Famous. Gorgeous. She dated race car drivers and movie stars. She was so far above my pay grade I shouldn’t even be breathing the same air. I was a former SEAL, a bodyguard sworn to protect her, not seduce her.

But my body seemed to have a mind of its own.

My fingers brushed against her jaw, urging her to open it for me. When she parted her lips, I exalted. Our tongues tangled, and I drank from her lips like a man needing water in the dessert. Whatever I’d felt with her before was long gone, replaced by something even stronger, wilder. More possessive. Instinctive. Needy—and I didn’t need anyone.

This was dangerous.

Focusing on her sweet lips, I ran a hand down her spine while she played with the hair at the nape of my neck. I was about to suggest we move to the bed, but a sharp knock on the door made her jump. I raised my head, and gently pushed her behind me just before the door burst open.

Immediately, I was in go mode, ready to take on anyone coming for her. As I turned to face the intruder, I was greeted with a familiar face standing in the door. I didn’t know her personally, but I recognized her from the entourage looming over Angelina every night at the arena.

“Angelina!” the woman cried out, her expression unreadable. I couldn’t tell if she was relieved or pissed. She gave a heavy, exaggerated sigh before hurrying over to Angelina to embrace her.

I moved toward the corner of the room, keeping out of the way on the sidelines. Back where I belonged. Lord knew I had no place among those land piranha. We had been lucky for sure. Her reflexes had been just as sharp as mine, allowing us to jump back from one another before the door had even fully clicked open.

But even as the rest of her leeches crowded around her, all I could think about was the softness of her lips. The more I reminisced about that kiss, the more I could still feel her lips on my own. The taste of her; her body curved against mine. Though I knew better, I found myself hoping that tonight wouldn’t be my only shot at those lips. I couldn’t help wanting more—she was perfect.

Another familiar voice echoed through the room, and my body stiffened. “Jesus Christ, that took forever.” Angelina’s uncle pushed through the crowd of people, but he didn’t hug his niece. Instead, he stood there, hands on his hips, narrowing his eyes as he looked down at her like she was a child. “Really, Angelina? You couldn’t have waited for us? You’re always so selfish.”

Angelina was at a loss for words—but I wasn’t. I had several on my tongue waiting for him. But—I managed to keep my mouth shut as she said, “I didn’t know—”

“Of course, you didn’t! You never think, Angie.” Her uncle tapped her on the temple, and she blushed in humiliation. “Never. Like I said… you’re selfish.”

I was going to take that fat rodent’s finger and twist it off if he touched her again. Slowly.

Breathe… just breathe. I gritted my teeth and told myself to behave. That maiming her uncle or punching him in the face wouldn’t help the situation. That this mess, this woman, Angelina, famous pop music star and her too beautiful to be real persona, was none of my business.

But she was. Like it or not, I was already involved—especially after that kiss.

Angelina needed someone to protect her. There was no walking away. Not for me.

As I watched her smile her fake smile and try to appease everyone around her, I made a shockingly easy decision.

She was mine. She just didn’t know it yet.

Excerpt

“What about you? Why aren’t you married?”

“The only woman who ever made me consider marriage left me for another man.” He didn’t hesitate to tell her that.

“Oh. Shit. That’s awful. I’m sorry.”

He stared at her hard.

She jerked backward. “You’re not talking about me.”

“I am.”

She shoved the chair back again and stood, spinning away from him exactly how she’d done earlier that morning. “Mike. That’s crazy.”

“Is it? Crazier than you making up a fake boyfriend to get me to leave you alone?”

Her face heated. “That is not what happened. You started it by ignoring my emails.” Her voice rose completely out of her control. “I sent you that email to light a fire under you. It was my last-ditch effort to get you to come after me. You failed.” Why the hell did she tell him that?

He stood as quickly as she had and took a step toward her.

She backed up as he approached until her butt hit the glass door.

He kept coming, stopping inches from her, his hands landing on the glass on both sides of her head. His gaze darted back and forth between her eyes, searching.

She couldn’t breathe. Every inhale filled her with his scent. If she thought she could get away with it, she would close her eyes to block out at least the sight of him.

“We both miscalculated.”

She shook her head. She wouldn’t allow him to put equal blame on her. “No. Because I sent you five emails. Five.” She held up one hand, all fingers extended. “You sent me nothing. Not. One. Word.”

He nodded sharply. “Fine. My bad. You’re right. I should’ve written back.”

Was it that easy? Did he seriously just take the blame? “Why?” A tear slid down her face, though she really wished it hadn’t. Damn emotions.

“I thought it was better for you. Tidier. I thought I needed to let you go.”

She grabbed his shirt, unable to stop herself. She fisted the material of his tight tee in her hands, her voice increasing as she spoke again. “Bullshit. You coward. I loved you.” Her voice quivered. Dammit. She shook him. Except he didn’t budge. But she shook his shirt. “I loved you, you idiot. And you walked away from me without a word.”

“I was wrong.” He closed the distance, smashing his firm body into hers, flattening her to the window. The glass was cold. She welcomed the coolness against her heated body.

Another tear slid down to match the first.

Mike cupped her face with one hand and rubbed the wetness with the pad of his thumb. “I was wrong,” he whispered again. “So very wrong.”

More tears. Damn him.

And then his mouth was on hers.

She couldn’t stop the rush of adrenaline that forced her to angle her head to the side and let him in.

His kiss was firm. Demanding. Like a starving man who hadn’t eaten in days and then came upon a buffet. He threaded his other hand in her hair, still holding her face with the first hand. His tongue danced with hers, demanding everything.

Unable to stop herself, she gave him everything back. Every emotion she’d ever felt for him leaked into that kiss. She eased her fists open and smoothed her hands around to his back as he pressed into her farther.

Totally aware of his erection against her belly, wetness leaked from her to soak her panties. She wanted him. Worse than she’d ever wanted anyone. Worse than she’d wanted him the first time he claimed her.

It infuriated her to so easily succumb to his touch, his lips, his wandering hands, his thick erection pressing against her… But she recognized it for what it was. Lust. Pure and simple. Nothing more.

Forever he kissed her, until her brain was scrambled and she knew nothing but being one with this man. When he finally eased back, he did so to nibble a path to her ear.

His lips against her sensitive skin sent a shudder down her body. Every time he’d done that in high school, she’d melted for him. Nothing had changed. “I loved you too, baby. So much it hurt. I’m sorry.”

She still didn’t understand why he’d left her. He’d carefully avoided that detail, but she didn’t want to argue with him anymore today. Instead, she held on tighter, hugging him against her in response. Hoping she conveyed at least a truce.

When he set his teeth gently on her earlobe, she moaned. “God, I missed this,” he whispered, his breath making her shiver in response.

It was like no time had passed. How was that possible?

“Now what do we do?” she finally asked his chest as she set her forehead against the rock-hard pec.

He lifted away from her ear, cupped her face, and forced her to meet his gaze, his body still pressed against hers. “Now, you take these threats seriously and help me figure out who this fucker is so we can stay one step ahead of him and keep you safe until he’s behind bars.”

Beauty by Marie Catherine Gebhard

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale.

My prince was a Beast with blood on his hands and ice in his veins. My family offered to save me. The only price: leaving the tattered pieces of my heart behind.

Our love was irrational. Cruel. Unforgiving. Nothing like the storybooks said it should be—but it was perfect.

The longer we were apart, the more I lost myself. He was vicious and domineering, but I craved the submission. Together we were destructive, but I was addicted to the devastation. Still, I thought titles mattered. To my family I was princess, and to the Beast I was slave. I was too naïve to understand that even though he’d been my captor, he’d broken the shackles on my soul.

Once upon a time, I thought love meant happily ever after.

Now I know better.

I was going insane, absolutely aching, and it was just instinct to touch myself. He grabbed my hand, lifting it so my fingers were just below his chin.

“Greedy girl,” he said. “Don’t you know your orgasm is mine? I own this.” He sucked my fingers until they were clean and I moaned, rubbing my thighs together. I was so overstimulated, I was sure I was going to come just from the friction. I rubbed my thighs harder and he laughed darkly, pushing me off him. I fell to the ground.

Eyes still locked, Anteros reached behind and flipped over the coffee table. The glass crashed and shattered. Some shards hit my thigh, but I didn’t think about that or the mess or the possible danger because moments later Anteros was on the ground with me.

He crawled between my legs and spread them wide in the new space. I got to my elbows, watching him rapt.

“If you come without permission,” he said, licking a long, razor sharp trail from behind my knee to inside my thigh, “you will be punished.”

Contemporary Romance

Cover Designer: CT Cover Creations, http://www.ctcovercreations.com/
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

Reserved and responsible Reese Brady refuses to miss her chance with bad boy rock star Mark Ashton. After one steamy night, she’s convinced the emotional connection they shared was just a figment of her imagination. After all, he’s a womanizer whose affairs are highly publicized.
Reese strives to leave that night behind her after a handsome business mogul asks her to dinner. Her relationship with Brian Fox quickly escalates into something meaningful, but Reese never expects the secret that emerges when he finally invites her to his penthouse.
She fell in love with a rock star the last time she was there. How could she know she’d fall in love with his brother next?

I’m thankful for the alcohol. It’s helping me make decisions that my sober mind wouldn’t agree with, but this is what I need. It’s like I’m finally thinking clearly, finally stepping out of my good girl persona and into the hidden minx that’s always been dormant inside me.

I lower my head and he’s centimeters away. I do what feels natural. I lean forward and press my lips to his.

I’m tentative at first despite the alcohol. His lips are firm and soft, a contradiction that feels absolutely right, but I’m leading here. I’m the one who kissed him.

I may be tentative, but he’s not. He’s hot and assured, pushing his hips harder against me to show me that he wants this…wants me. His arms tighten around me as our tentative kiss escalates.

His mouth opens to mine, and that’s when the music stops—or it keeps going, I don’t know, because all I’m aware of are my primal instincts. I meet his hips as they push to mine, our bodies pressed together as passion takes over. My hands trail up to feel his hair. It’s soft and thick, and I luxuriate in rolling a few strands around my fingertips. His hands grip my back, fingertips digging into the exposed flesh, as if it’s the only way he can prevent himself from getting me naked in the middle of a crowded dance floor.

He breaks our kiss first. He’s a bit breathless and I’m a panting mess.

He leans into me, pulling me into a hug and nuzzling my neck. He turns so his lips are near my ear. “I’ve wanted to do that since that morning you ran into me when you got off the elevator.”

I think to myself that I’ve wanted that, too, but I was scared, too caught up in my own head, too stupid to see what was right in front of me. He’s a catch, and I’ve been pushing him away because I can’t stop thinking about a pipe dream.

But I won’t allow myself to continue to be stupid.

“So much for taking things slow,” I mutter.
