A single woman – A double life

Sadie Stewart, international model by day, CIA operative by night, wants it all: the danger and intrigue of being a spy, the glamour of modeling on the international stage and the love of a good man. But after she survives a second assassination attempt on her life, her world spins out of control.

Art dealer, Sebastian Wilde, a Viking with cool, blue eyes and body of a Norse God wants Sadie safe and by his side. And Sadie’s boss, the infamous master-spy, Jeremiah Cole, demands she follow his orders.

When she faces the assassin alone, she defies both men and risks everything.

A cross between Covert Danger and Indiana Jones
Smart, Sexy Suspense

… a male operative wearing jeans low enough on his hips to make her eyes linger down there, where no woman likes to be caught looking in public, delivered her mother’s chest. Pulling her eyes up his body, she tried hard not to stall on his killer smile. It should be banned by the Global Warming initiative. She could fault herself at noticing his good looks, but as her best friend Mitch liked to say, “No harm in window shopping.” The man was a gorgeous hunk of humanity.

Looking at him, perhaps too closely, Sadie stood in her doorway, with her right hand on her gun in the pocket of her robe. No makeup, no shoes—a bit of a disaster. She felt drabber than drab. Why did Cole send this Greek God guy?

The answer clicked into her mind: because he wanted to distract her. Get her away from Sebastian. Her mouth broke into a big smile. Nice try Jeremiah.

The man’s green eyes looked her over without apology. Undoubtedly, he knew her code name, Mata Hari, and he had heard stories, possibly many stories about her escapades. The unmistakable, carnal heat in his gaze put the question in the air.

Was she interested in a morning romp with a handsome stranger?

Running a hand through her mane of hair, she gave him a pleasant smile, the kind you give your kid brother when he’s washed your car for you. “Let’s get on with it,” she said.

We once again meet up with Sadie Stewart and Sebastian Wilde in this fast paced novella.

Sadie’s world is spinning out of control. Her boss, Jeremiah Cole, has told her she needs to cut Sebastian lose. She finds evidence her great aunt was a spy. KOTL has made another attempt on her life. Her dog is poisoned. What is a girl to do when her man is away and she is all alone?

Sebastian, the art dealer with the deep blue eyes and the body of a Norse God just wants Sadie by his side, but not necessarily handcuffed to her bed. The chemistry between them pops off the page. Sebastian the protector, finds himself on the other side when he returns to help Sadie and they are both taken, but working together they quickly defeat the enemy.

If you like the action and suspense of a James Bond movie, then this series and book are for you. Jo-Ann Carson is a master at keeping you intrigued with her stories from page one. She serves up a healthy dose of smart, sexy suspense. Highly recommend.

Morgan’s Musings – Release Blitz/Review – An Indecent Invitation

An Indecent Invitation
by Laura Trentham
Series: Spies and Lovers, #1
Genre: Historical Romance – Regency
Release Date: August 25, 2015

Keeping her safe is difficult, keeping a proper distance from her is downright impossible.

Lady Lily Drummond understands only too well the danger of spy work. Her father, a preeminent master spy, has been missing for months, and her brother barely survived his final mission for the Crown. Lily is still determined to help find her father, no matter how hard her brother and his best friend try to keep her in the dark.

Busy trying to untangle the web of deceit surrounding the Earl of Windor’s disappearance, Crown spy Gray Masterson also has to ensure Lily Drummond, the gangly, awkward child who was his constant shadow growing up, doesn’t get herself ruined at her London debut. But the girl with scraped knees and elbows has evolved into a lush, sensual beauty surrounded by a bevy of suitors.

Realizing Lily is going to investigate on her own if he doesn’t let her join the hunt for her missing father, Gray assumes he can give Lily a few minor tasks to pacify her, but he quickly learns she is a valuable asset. Moreover, she fairly crackles with life and warmth—things he craves after his dark years in service.

Warning: This book contains spies, scandals, naughty liaisons in houses of ill repute, men who think they know everything and women who know they do not.

Lily slyly watched Gray confront Montbatton and then execute a courtly bow to Lady Abbott. How long before her reckoning? Only a few minutes had passed. Not nearly long enough for her heart to slow. He approached—not with angry mincing steps or even hurried anxious ones, but in a casual loose-limbed saunter.
Did he know?
Gray had been lanky in his youth, but he’d always possessed an unusual agility and grace. Seemingly never feeling awkward in his body, he moved with a compelling confidence that had only grown more telling over the years. A broad, deep chest and narrow, lean hips complemented indecently muscled legs. Not that she had made a close examination, heavens no, but she could hardly miss them flexing during their dance.
Perhaps he wasn’t the tallest or the most handsome man in attendance, but there was something about him. In fact, several ladies’ heads turned when he passed them by. Not that he noticed, because his gaze pinned her like an insect on display.
Not smiling nor frowning, his face revealed not a single clue to his mood. He stopped directly in front of her, cocked one foot in front of the other and clasped his hands behind his back. A purely masculine stance that, along with his silence, set her nerves jangling.
She tucked several escaped tendrils back into pins and then opened and closed her fan a few times. Unable to tolerate another second of the increasing tension, she yielded, feeling somehow as if she’d lost the first skirmish of a war. “We meet again, Mr. Masterson. Mayhap did you learn anything interesting?”
His eyes, vibrantly green and arresting even partially shielded behind his spectacles, shimmered with an emotion she couldn’t interpret. “I learned Montbatton is indeed in pursuit, and you should expect an offer. He informed me most vehemently to pass that information on. Lady Abbott thought it highly amusing I didn’t know your name. And lastly, I discovered Lady Lily should be in the corner with her chaperone.”
“Very impressive, but did anyone reveal my name?”
“Absolutely no one.” A single eyebrow arched above the rim of his spectacles.
Her shoulders, which at some point had bunched toward her ears, relaxed, and she tapped her fan against her lips to stem a victorious smile. “And I was so looking forward to another dance. Mayhap I’ll help you find your wayward friend instead. Over here did you say?”
A dark-haired matron in a red dress occupied the corner in question. She sat upright in a chair next to a ficus and, at first glance, appeared to be serenely observing the tableau of couples on the dance floor. The only indications she was soundly asleep were her closed eyes and slightly agape mouth. Her Aunt Edie was quite possibly the most worthless chaperone in all of England, which suited Lily perfectly. She’d no desire to relinquish the relative freedom she enjoyed in the country.
“That’s certainly not your debutante,” Lily said. “Come, let’s stroll while we look.”
“God’s teeth, that’s most likely her chaperone. Sound asleep while Lily runs wild.” Gray sounded truly aghast.
“Yes, your friend might be in the company of the worst sort of rogue who inappropriately whisked her away.” A cough covered her spate of giggles.
“Indeed.” His tone turned solemn. “She’s a highly impulsive chit not used to male attention. No doubt, she’d be easily lured into an indiscretion by a charming smile or prestigious title.” He tutted. “They’d only be after her dowry, poor thing.”
She sucked in a huge breath, ready to unleash her tongue, but his next words ripped the air from her lungs.
“Would you care to take a turn in the gardens as I haven’t earned a dance?”
“What about your friend? Shouldn’t you find her? What if she waits for you?” Her words spilled out too quickly. How many times had Rafe told her to never enter the gardens with a gentleman? At least a hundred. Although it was only Gray. If any man could be trusted, it would be him. Wouldn’t it?
“I was to surprise her tonight. She doesn’t even know I’m attending. We won’t be long, just a breath of fresh air. It’s rather stuffy, isn’t it?”
“I suppose a very brief turn in the garden wouldn’t hurt. It is awfully close in here.” Lily snapped her fan open and cooled herself with frenzied flicks of her wrist. Was it the crush of people or his suggestion making her feel so heated?

This was a first for me with author Laura Trentham, but will not be my last. This story has it all, romance, spies, scandals, houses of ill repute, men who think they know it all and women who know that they don’t. It is well written and engaging with all its twists and turns.

Lady Lily Drummond is a fascinating character. Not your usual woman of the Regency period. She would rather talk politics and gather information than dance at parties. She is smart, beautiful and is going to do what she wants. And she is determined to find her father, The Earl of Windor, who disappeared on a mission for the Crown.

Gray Masterson, a spy, and best friend to Lily’s brother has been entrusted to keep Lily safe and not get herself ruined at her London debut. But the woman is nothing like the little hoyden he knew. In her place, is a beautiful, sensual woman. A women he want,s but one he doesn’t think he deserves. Their bickering and flirting can only lead to one thing. This story contains some scorching love scenes and passion filled embraces.

Ms. Trentham has a fantastic start to a great historical series. Look forward to reading the next in the series. I highly recommend this book to all that like a “hot” Regency romance. Definitely a 5 Star read.

moonsong excerpt

Chase dropped to the ground on her right, landing light as a cat before straightening to his full height and stepping close. “You’re not so good at listening, let’s see how good you are with your mouth,” he smirked. Closing the distance between them, he leaned down to kiss her, giving her no opportunity to pull away.
Millie opened her mouth to retort, her reply cut off to little more than a squeak as his mouth closed over hers. Who the hell did he think he was? A wolf… a little voice deep inside reminded as she tasted his hunger. Awareness flushed through her body as Chase pressed her against the length of him, trapping her body between his and the tree. Everything about him was hard and unyielding, but he didn’t punish her with his strength, he merely kept her from escaping while he explored the dark secrets of her mouth at his leisure. Amelia’s initial hesitation quickly disappeared, the blood singing in her veins as her arousal spread like wildfire wherever their bodies touched.
Still, a smidgen of self control remained and Millie shoved at his chest, desperate to create a little space between them. Chase barely gave an inch, blazing a trail of kisses along the curve of her jaw toward the smooth column of her throat.
“What are you doing?” she demanded, even as her fingers slid up to curl around the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer.
“Showing you how dangerous the night can be.”
His kiss was everything wild and dangerous about the night as promised, and a secret part of herself she didn’t even know existed responded to the predator who took what he wanted, instead of asking permission as society dictated. No thought for consequences or the future, Chase operated on a purely sensual level. She could feel it in the way the energy thrummed from his body to hers. It made her forget the party in full swing just a few feet away, forget her objections to being manhandled altogether. Somewhere in the back of her mind that bothered her in a big way, and a flare of panic went through her as he touched bare skin.
“Wait…” she panted, breaking the kiss and drawing in a ragged breath.
“Relax.” Chase made no move to let her go, lips brushing over the sensitive spot where neck met shoulder.
“We should get back to the party.”
“I warned you not to stray into the dark woods unprotected.” His teeth scraped lightly over her flesh in a love bite, and Millie hoped it wouldn’t leave a mark. That was the last thing she wanted to explain to Gran.
“You were the one who was supposed to protect me, remember?”
“I am protecting you,” he insisted.
“How, by mauling me out in the woods yourself?” Millie demanded, pulling her head away to try and catch his gaze.
“I am keeping you safe by making you mine,” Chase replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Who says I’m yours?”
That brought him up short. “Is there someone else?”
“Well, no, but…”
“Then what’s the problem?” His sexy grin reappeared.
“The problem is, I just met you yesterday, Chase. I don’t work that fast.”
“You can’t fight your destiny, Amelie. You know we belong together.”
“Don’t call me that,” she snapped irritably. Chase seemed unperturbed, stroking his fingers down the bare skin of her back, making her shiver with delight. It took Amelia a long moment to focus her thoughts again before she could reply. “Just because you’re a good kisser, doesn’t make you my destiny. Besides, what about Leah?”
“What about her?” He stared back blankly.
“Aren’t you and she…?”
Chase gave an inelegant snort. “That was never anything serious.”
“Does she know that? Because if looks could kill…”
“She knew exactly what she was getting into.”
Millie turned that over in her head for a moment, trying to decide exactly what he meant by that. “Look…” She stole a deep, calming breath. “I like you Chase. I’d like to get to know you better, but I don’t belong to anyone but myself. That’s about all I’m offering right now. If that’s not enough…” She shook her head.
Chase stared back at her for a long moment, and then the tension went out of his body and he found his smile again. “Alright, that’ll have to be enough for now. I’m a patient man, Millie – up to a certain point,” he replied, tilting her chin up and placing an almost chaste kiss to her lips. “So, if you’re not going to let me steal your virtue out here, let’s get back to the party. And no more wandering off, you understand?”
“Okay, okay,” she grumbled, trusting the darkness to hide her eye roll. “I read you loud and clear.” She accepted his hand for the walk back to the party.
“Good, I’d hate to have to give you another lesson.”

Morgan Musings – Release Day Blitz & Review – To Kiss A Rake

To Kiss A Rake
by Barbara Monajem
Series: Scandalous Kisses, #1
Genre: Regency Historical Romance
Release Date: July 29, 2015

WHEN A LADY IS ABDUCTED BY MISTAKE…

Melinda Starling doesn’t let ladylike behavior get in the way of true love. She’s secretly helping with an elopement, when she’s tossed into the waiting coach and driven away by a notorious rake.

REVENGE REALLY DOESN’T PAY.

Miles Warren, Lord Garrison, comes from a family of libertines, and he’s the worst of them all—or so society believes. When Miles helps a friend to run away with an heiress, it’s an entertaining way to revenge himself on one of the gossips who slandered him.

Except that he drives off with the wrong woman…and as if that wasn’t scandalous enough, he can’t resist stealing a kiss.

Setup: Miles and Melinda have just been united in a marriage of great inconvenience which neither of them wished. They haven’t consummated the marriage yet (for a reason Melinda would rather I didn’t mention here). Miles is taking advantage of the next few days to work up to it, though.

Miles guided the greys between two wagons. “Putting on an act, pretending to be madly in love, worked well enough in a pinch, but now that we’re married, we should take a different approach.”

“Which is?” asked Melinda.

“We should get to know one another,” he said.

She huffed. “Obviously we’ll do that.”

“By means of flirtation.”

That delicate flush arose in her cheeks again. “I beg your pardon?”

“Think about it. If I were courting you, we would flirt.” He paused to let her absorb the notion. “Wouldn’t we? You must have flirted with many men.” His heart beat painfully at the thought that she might continue to do so.

“Only if I knew they weren’t serious,” she said. “The moment they got that intent expression in their eyes, as if they wanted to steal a-a kiss…” Her eyes widened. For a hushed second, her gaze hovered on his lips. Abruptly, she looked away. “I wouldn’t let them.”

“Ah.” He suppressed a smile. “That privilege fell to me, and I seized it most unfairly.”

She took a deep breath. Did she realize how it made her bosom rise and fall? “And if it seemed they were on the verge of making an offer, I stopped flirting straightaway.”

“But that was then and this is now, and you’re already married to me. Think of the next few days as our courtship. We’ll drive in the Park, we’ll perhaps have ices at Gunter’s, we may even get invited to a ball or two, and…”

“We’ll flirt.” She glanced at him from under her lashes—at his mouth again—and away.

“But it will be much different from before. Instead of stopping at the first sign of serious intent, you’ll carry on as if your interest is as genuine as mine.”

She chewed on her bottom lip. She toyed with the fingertips of her glove.

“As if it’s leading somewhere,” he said.

Melinda knew perfectly well that he meant the consummation of their marriage, but why must she blush so easily? She’d mentioned that kiss, and all of a sudden she couldn’t keep her eyes away from his mouth. “Which it is,” she said gruffly. There wasn’t much room on the seat of the curricle—enough for the two of them, but very little space between. She’d never flirted with a man in such close proximity before. It certainly added spice to the experience.

“So there’s no reason to shy away or give me the cold shoulder or whatever you did to those fellows,” he said. “You may indulge your natural enjoyment of flirtation as much as you like.”

She bristled at that. “Who told you I enjoy flirting?” Then she remembered. “Is it something Lord Bottleford said? He was forever reprimanding me for being too friendly, and saying a lady should maintain a proper distance at all times. To him, that meant ignoring everyone else and listening enraptured while he prosed on and on. And on.” She rolled her eyes. “And on.”

His lips twitched. His eyes gleamed. Something inside her did a strange little flip.

She pulled herself together. He disconcerted her without even saying a word. “Who, then? My grandmother?”

“No, I didn’t mean you in particular, but rather one’s natural tendency to flirt with members of the opposite sex. It’s quite primitive, I think—rather like mating rituals of birds or beasts.”

Primitive. What an odd word to use of flirting, which had always seemed a highly civilized behavior until now. And yet…how very enticing.

She wanted him to kiss her again.

***** 5 Out Of 5 Stars

What do you do when you try to help a friend elope and you get kidnapped instead? That is what happens to Melinda when she tries assisting her friend , Lavinia and the rake has the gall to still a kiss.

Miles Warren, Lord Garrison, sees a way of revenging the gossip mongers, when he helps his friend run away with an heiress, but unfortunately takes the wrong woman. In the process, Melinda is knocked out and doesn’t know she has been abducted. Once she is returned to London, she is refused entrance to her home by her grandmother, and ends up going home with Lord Garrison to await the arrival of her brother.

Miles sees marriage as the only way to save Melinda’s reputation and his total disgrace. She wants to marry for love and because of a past betrayal, he no longer believes in love. Even with secrets and the odds against them, Miles and Melinda work to to find love.

This romance has great characters, romance, humor and dialog. Ms. Monajem has a winner with this start of a new series. Look forward to reading the next book.

Winner of the Holt Medallion, Maggie, Daphne du Maurier, Reviewer’s Choice and Epic awards, Barbara Monajem wrote her first story at eight years old about apple tree gnomes. She published a middle-grade fantasy when her children were young. When they grew up, she turned to writing for grownups, first the Bayou Gavotte paranormal mysteries and then Regency romances with intrepid heroines and long-suffering heroes (or vice versa). Some of her Regencies have magic in them and some don’t (except for the magic of love, which is in every story she writes).

Barbara loves to cook, especially soups, and is an avid reader. There are only two items on her bucket list: to make asparagus pudding and succeed at knitting socks. She’ll manage the first but doubts she’ll ever accomplish the second. This is not a bid for immortality but merely the dismal truth. She lives near Atlanta, Georgia with an ever-shifting population of relatives, friends, and feline strays.
